taring into the darkness, the party gazes into the unknown as they proceed into the depths of the mountain. After a few turns they approach a corridor with slits in the walls every five feat. When Kio send a fire blast down the length of the corridor huge double bladed axes begin to swing back and forth from within the slits. Fow Bang Chow raises an earth wall down the center of the room stopping the swing of the pendulums. Slowly crawling through the death trap they make their way to the next turn where more slits in the walls await. Before moving forward Fow Bang Chow notices with the keen eyes of an earthbender that the corner of the room was put up by an earthbender. Bringing the wall down they enter a secret room. Inside the room are massive heavy metals doors unlike any they have ever seen. The doors depict images of the sun on one door and the moon on the other and unknown writings along the rim. A key lock in the center of the door keeps it securely shut from outsiders. Curiosity strikes the party, wondering what treasures would be so well hidden deep in the mountain. Breaking the hinges from the stone walls they are pinned too with earthbending they send the door flying. A musky smell flows out of the freshly opened room. Three pairs of yellow eyes open, piercing through the void of darkness.
The party is stunned in fear. Screams break the still darkness and three un-naturally large wolfbats fly out of the room. Fow Bang Chow regains composure and blocks their path, only to see them quickly spin around and go the other way, frantically making their way out of the mountain.
The group looks at the carvings inside the room and on the back of the door as the slowly shake of the fear and adrenaline running through their veins. Images of wolfbats turning into ferocious creatures and tearing people apart, only biting others. The ones who are bit turning into smaller monsters themselves and renewing the carnage. The left wolfbat turning into a wolf like creature standing strong under the moon. The right bat turning into a winged bat like monster shielding itself from the suns rays. The middle wolfbat becoming a creature that seems to be a hybrid of each creature, but stronger than both. Standing strong under the moon and the sun.
When light is put to the carvings it seems as if inside each of the three creatures is the faint outline of a man, eyes and mouth open but empty, as if they had no life inside them. Fow Bang Chow collects samples of the carvings for future reference, as the hole party is obviously disturbed, Kio in particular who lost sleep over myths and legends of these creatures as a child. Stories of immortal monsters, spawn of the keeper himself, wrecking havoc amongst the world in the night. The party puts away their fears for the time being. They move onward, blocking the row of traps unleashed by the passing wolfbats. As they turn a corner they see a guard and attack without hesitation, stopping any potential alarm as a fire blast is following by a spine breaking kick to the back by Tsing Tao. A door lies down this hallway at the end with torches outside. Listening at the door they hear the chatter of soldiers and put up an earth wall in the hall to prevent escape. Moving back down the hall they go in another room. The room smells of gore as they peer into the torture chamber. An air nomad and a elderly man lie on wooden tables, weapons hung around the room. The old man is dead, but there is an interesting necklace on the stool next to him. The pendant on the end has a moon and sun above a wolfbat head on one side and a white wolf head on the other. Pushing the wolfbat head, Fow Bang Chow makes a key prong come out the bottom. The key matches the lock in the Tomb door and it appears this man was guarding the tomb from intruders when the Imperial Order sacked the town.
Moving on th party enters a room with a basilisk that has its’ eyes cut out. They defeat the creature with efficiency. They look into the peek hole of the next room and hear the scratching of claws on stone. Kio creates a raging torrent of flame through the opening and engulfs everything in the room with fire. Continuing on the stone masonry turns into tunnels of natural design. A breeze carries the stench of death and rotting carrion from inside a massive cavern within the mountain, towering almost 250 feet high and filled with huge boulders that fell from the ceiling. As the heroes enter towering boulders nearly 30 ft tall stand to both sides in the pitch black cavern. Fire in hand, Kio notices a fifteen foot hillock that gradually rises further into the room. Fow Bang Chow and Fang Po Po jump onto the boulder to their left while Kio and Tsing Tao make their way onto the hill. When they reach the top the firebender makes a light to get a good view of the cavern. As light bounces off the tan stone, the two adventures see a sight that ties their stomach in knots. All around are the bodies of cattle, sheep, horses, and men.As light hits them, small black heads pop up with yellow eyes disturbed by the light. Only eyes are illuminated in the darkness and their are more than they can count, some much large than others, and all looking in their direction. Fow Bang Chow jumps into action from atop his stone retreat and lifts the two stunned party members up on a fifteen foot pillar. Fang Po Po jumps into action as well and spins the air into a raging tornado on the left side as baby black dragons take flight at the new meal in their midst. The wyrmlings cluster in groups of five or so on Fow Bang Chow attempting to bite him as he smacks them away with his arms. Kio looks down and sees the steady progression of large slug like creatures, tentacles flaring in front of sharp teeth and green bodies, as they climb on top of one another fighting to be the first to slime their ways to the top of the column and get the the fresh meat.
Tsing Tao makes a daring decision to take the offensive and maybe change the atmosphere of the battle, jumping off the pillar with a fierce kick into the closest carrion crawler. They both topple to the ground and the martial artist readies to defend himself.Fow Bang Chow makes a stone bridge to Kio, giving them more strategical options, and hurls chunks of stone at the swarming wyrmlings. The wyrmling fly in at the airbender as well and Fang Po Po loses his tornado. He spins his hands together and pushes the air away from him while rotating it, creating a shield against the ravenous flyers. A huge reptilian quadruped with horns curving out in front of its’ snarling dragon like jaws charges at the exposed martial artist and makes contact with his side.
Tsing Tao takes the blow and is able to move out of the way of nips and bights as five small biped reptiles snap at him with nimble jaws. Acid flies past his face spewed from the jaws of a medium sized reptile that walks low to the ground with a long body and tail and bares ferocious jaws, green acid dripping from his teeth. Kio attempts to ignite his blade with intensified flames to combat the ravenous carrion crawlers approaching from the side of the pillar but fails in his first attempt. He knows that if he doesn’t succeed soon they will be overwhelmed without the firepower. Fow Bang Chow moves to the center of the stone bridge he made and pelts wyrmlings with rocks as the continue to assault him from all sides. Rocks collide with frail bodies and send them flying through the darkness. Fang Po Po attempts another tornado from within his shields but fails and wyrmlings take the opportunity as his shields fall. They bite and snap and unleash small blasts of liquid fire from their jaws as the airbender swats at them. He notices just in time a carrion crawler coming up behind him after scaling the rock wall. Tsing Tao holds back the reptilian creatures as he tries to get in a few blows, but he is unable to get off the defensive for even a second lest he be overwhelmed. He knows he is losing fast as the small creatures to his back latch onto his legs with sharp teeth, and he barely ducks from spitting acid while trying the hold back the Horned Felldrake. Just in time Kio sets his blades aflame as a Carrion Crawler makes it to the top and tries to strike him with its tentacles. It doesnt make its mark, but hits a passing wyrmling and the little dragon falls to the ground, paralyzed.
Aumanil who has been absent since they entered the room was partially paralyzed by one when the action started and luckily was able to freeze it to a wall before falling unconcious, Kio cuts the slug like predator in half with flaming blades before releasing a stream of fire down the side of the pillar knocking off half the others. Fow Bang Chow fights off the current group of ravenous dragon hatch-lings and motions Fang Po Po to him before dropping a huge rock on top of some of the creatures attacking the martial artist and putting a wall on his left side, leaving enemies in front of and behind him. The airbender runs past the grasping tentacles of the crawler and grabs the earthbender on the bridge, flying them both down to the right off to the side of the hording creatures where they can see Tsing Tao fighting off a circle of enemies. Two more horned felldrakes and three more spitting ones come from the back of the cave, drawn by the sounds of combat. Tsing Tao takes more bites from the ravenous crested felldrakes as he desperately tries to keep the larger Hornerd Felldrake at bay. Kio dons his blue mask and dives of the column towards the crested drakes attacking the martial artist.
Flipping forward with his swords at the last moments he cuts the head off of one of the raptors biting at his friend before he hits the ground. Wyrmlings notice the flaming blades as their original two targets retreat and change prey. Fow Bang Chow brings up an earth wall between his column on the hill and the rock he brought down moments ago, cutting off the spitting and horned felldrakes from his allies. The predators all turn around and notice the two benders standing in the middle of the room, now cut off from the other party members they change targets to the two lone members. They all run at the two benders. Tsing Tao gets behind Kio just as he loses strength and drinks a refreshing healing potion. The other party members have all dropped a potion of their own by now as well. Kio begins to quickly dispatch the crested drakes and notices the carrion crawler coming down towards them, as well as 6 wyrmlings. Fow Bang Chow raises him and the airbender up on a column as Fang Po Po produces an air shield around them blowing back four wyrmlings as they swarmed in. The drakes below, save the horned felldrake that was attacking Tsing Tao, charge the column. The other Horned drake tries to attack the wall to get back at the martial artist. Tsing Tao is now back to fighting strength and jumps over the wall landing with a crunch on the horned drakes neck. The beast lets out a cry of pain as it falls dead.
The horned felldrakes take out chunks of the column back make no significant progress. Fow Bang Chow pelts more wyrmling from the air as Fang Po Po also switches to offense, swirling the air about and taking the little dragons from the sky. The drakes now see Tsing Tao as a target they can reach and attack. a charging Horned felldrake collides with him as grabs onto a horn and tries to keep away its biting teeth. Kio jumps over and helps his companion just in time as he is overwhelmed by acid and horns. He slashes at the enemies with cool ferocity. The horned felldrake takes a fatal slash and falls. Fow Bang Chow sends rocks at the spitting felldrakes, dispatching two and wounding another. Fang Po Po sends his torent of air to take out the other wyrmling before they get to Kio. The last horned felldrake begins to charge at Kio as the martial artist runs off to the side of the fallen rock. The firebender gets out of the way. Fow Bang Chow is hit by a spit of acid from the surviving drake but ignores the pain as he slams a wall into the horned drake, throwing him against the first earth wall. The drake is now slammed between two earth wall with only one way out and Kio in that direction. He begins to charge forwards. Tsing Tao returns to see the charging beast and as the firebender gets out of the way the drake pins the martial artist to a wall only to have its head sliced clear off by Kio. Fow Bang Chow and Fang Po Po dispatch the last drakes and wyrmlings and take in some much needed breaths as they inspect their serious wounds.
They make their way to the end of the cavern in limps and drags as they approach a green crystal wall at the top of stone steps that was visible from the middle of the room. Aumanil begins to regain consciousness as his friends help him walk up the steps. Fow Bang Chow brings down the wall and sees a sarcophagus in front a crystal sphere that appears to have a large creature inside. They take off the lid of the coffin to find the fabled earthbender from Ba Sing Se who sought to become more powerful than the avatar. His coffin is filled with powerful items he wielded in life. The earthbender is known as Dia Long. Fow Bang Chow dons a thick green scale cape. Aumanil puts on a headband that flashes memories in his head of Eros. He knows this used to belong to her and that it grants water breathing. He also gains her knowledge of the ability “Where ther is life there is water” while it is on his head. Kio is drawn to a sword that allows the user to channel his bending through it in the spirit world, but it draws demons when used, crafted by Hephaestus and deemed too powerful to exist, but stolen by Dia Long before he could destroy it. Tsing Tao pulls out a lute and has visions of it repelling spirits. Fang Po Po pulls out a gem that was used to take the firebending away from a silver dragon with the soul of a lion turtle that can’t be used again, and he now knows that the poor creature is what lies within the crystal dome. Fow Bang Chow opens it and the shy and broken creature, Scylla the Dragon, immediately takes to the gentle airbender. Now timid and shy she will only attack when necessary and avoids fights whenever possible, her pride and confidence irreparably damaged.
She lifts off and flies out a hole in the corner of the room out of the mountain cavern. The group looks forward and knows that the opening at the end of the cave in front of them is the black dragons lair, as they hear the deep rumble of its’ breath inside. A knot hits deep their stomachs as they share glances between one another, and take a slow step forward into the foreboding darkness ahead…
