aking there way to the Southern Air Temple, our adventurers meet with generals from both the temple and the Dragons of the White Lotus to discuss impending attack by the Fellowship of the Imperial Order. When they arrive off their ship they marvel at the magnificent architecture, as well as people, that exist in this breathtaking mountain temple.
They are escorted by a monk the the council chambers. It is here they encounter General Reibesch and Monk Arhat, along with four other high ranking Nomads. The leaders inform our party that the Imperial Order is planning an assault on the temple and has somehow negotiated the help of a black dragon. Normally the air temple is very defensible but a dragon would quickly turn the tide against us. Reibesch informs you that the dragon has made a lair inside of the mountains that border the small city of Asloth and that there is rumored to be a way in through the city. The city however has recently been taken by the Order. The best option available is to scout the city and fin the way in. As our party heads by ship to the western coast of the Earth Kingdom, Avatar Jaraiya trains with the air nomads to master his Airbending. The party makes shore and proceeds up the path to Asloth when they are stopped by a group who calls themselves the Broadsword Bandits. Dressed as refugees our heroes are targeted for a highway tax. A battle ensues as Fow Bang Chow roars in challenge to their arrogance. The bandits release four Armadillo Lions into the fray.
During the battle Tsing Tao becomes surrounded and is launched into the air by our earthbender. Rising over 50 feet in the air, the martial artist comes down with an elbow blow on the lead bandit and watches as the barbarians spine collapses one link at a time completely demolishing him. Fow Bang Chow cushions the fall with earthbending to stop his friend taking a blow from the fall. The other bandits either run or are quickly dispatched as water tentacles surrounding Aumanil and waves of fire assault their ranks.
Suddenly a Boar-Q-Pine appears, disturbed by the lions in it’s territory and attacks the party.
After a short but fierce fight the beast falls. Inside the cart the barbarians were pulling the party finds a youngling badger mole named Connery who seems to like Fow Bang Chow, maybe because he is a fellow earthbender and they can connect on a primal level. Our party travels into the city of Asloth and discover a once proud mining city now a poverty stricken land that has fallen into depression. The roads and sidewalks are muddy and un-maintained. The people wear brown and green garb that is dirty and torn, backs slumped over and dirty faces. To the right is a stable and forward is the marketplace with roads going left and right. A newly built church towers over the left side of the town with the residential center to the right and Imperial Order troops patrolling in regular inter-voles.
Aumanil and Kio see the black dragon flying into the mountain from far above the city, unseen by the rest of the group. The party encounters the Blacksmith who they have met before, and he takes flight when he recognizes his terrorizers. The party pursues, afraid of alarm. Fow Bang Chow unleashes a masterfully thrown pair of shackles, but the fearful and determined smith grabs onto a window in desperation and the shackles are pulled off their grip. He scrambles inside and the party locks him in after a brief conversation with the terrified man. The party scouts out the allies of the foggy city as night begins to fall and encounter 5 guards attacking a few woman and pulling them into a house. The group breaks in and dispatches the guards, saving the woman and donning the uniforms. The group tries to talk their way past the guards posted to guard the entrance to the mountain tunnels and almost ends up getting caught after trying to bluff the well trained men selected for the assignment. They change tactics and Kio sets a house on fire, sending the guards rushing to put it out. Fow Bang Chow quickly dispatches the archers above and the group moves into the tunnel system leading into the mountain. Making their way inside they turn into the first room they find in the pitch black hallways. Inside the room there are a few dead bodies as well as large holes in the walls. Fang Po Po utilizes his airbending abilities to make a bag of gold float over to them from the corpses. As they turn to leave the unsettling room a harpoon strikes Aumanil from above and pulls him into the jaws of a massive spiked spider.
The skilled waterbender reacts by throwing ice shards into the spider ferocious face, eyes and fangs glaring back at him. Tsing Tao quickly reacts and tries to pull his companion down by the legs. The spider doesn’t let go but underestimates the strength of the martial artist and they all come tumbling down to the floor. The party concentrates their firepower and unleash their full strength on the terrible spider. Just as the finish it off, more yellow eyes appear in the other holes throughout the room. The group runs outside and with a swift move Fow Bang Chow brings up an earth wall to black the way so the spiders can’t get out. They turn back to the dark wet corridor and wonder what other dangers lurk in the depths of this mountain. They would soon found out.
