They purchase what they believe to be chi enhancing tea, but they find out later to have been swindled by a traveling con artist who is notorious for following marching armies to scam the soldiers.
ain pours on the roof of the temple where the group sleeps, 2 floors above the library. Lightning strikes the roof of the temple as the sun begins to dawn of the misty horizon. The force of the lightning shakes the building and each of the young heroes are awoken in their respective room. Realizing it is still a few hours before they need to ready for the battle, they each must decide whether to get some extra sleep or practice the forms on the scrolls they found. All but Fang Po Po cannot resist the temptation and practice the new techniques while the airbender gets extra rest. After learning their new techniques, the four who are awake travel down to the shops and vendors traveling with the army.
Po Po and Jaraiya are awoken and they meet up with the rest of the group and they are lead by Lotus soldiers to the commanders. The characters all gleam in battle garb and ceremonial dress, weapons glistening in the sunlight ready for the inevitable clash ahead.
As they approach Scylla raises her head, bellowing a mighty roar into the sky. She has been fitted with iron armor, complimenting her silver scales and giving her an intimidating appearance. Reibesch introduces them to the leader of the Crimson Dragons names Higen. Higen is a big man with white hair and many scars. The smile of a seasoned warrior his face. The Crimson Dragons are a group of elite warriors with large round shields, heavy armor, and a helm shaped like a dragons head. Crimson capes flow behind them. Higen explains that he and his men, trained directly under General Zimmer, are in charge of protecting them and the Avatar during the battle. The generals are waiting with a group of Dragon-Moose and the characters mount up. A group of Ostrich Horse cavalry escorts them along the stone pass and through the fort, making their way across the temple bridge and towards the forward wall.
The forward wall is filled with archers on the two top levels and a massive ballista is mounted on the top. As they march through the two thick wooden gates they come upon the battlefield. The wall, wedged in-between the two mountain cliffs on either side stand proud against it’s would-be conquerors. The cliffs rise hundreds of feet above the green valley. Far to the left of the valley a large forest is nestled against the mountain walls, sheer grey stone rising high over the grassy plain, shadowing the battlefield. General Zimmer waits in the forest with nearly 800 Ostrich Horse heavy cavalry. The trees goes deep into the mountains where many trails travel snake through the forest. Two the right of the battlefield is a sheer drop down to the ocean. The lotus troops number roughly around 10,000 and they wedge themselves in front of the wall, the mountains hugging them on either side forming a fierce front of tower shields and long-spears,men clad in scale-mail over red tunics. Armored Sky Bison and Airbender’s fly over the army, carrying supplies and messages. The group and the commanders make their way forward and to the right of the wall where a hillock provides a better vantage of the battlefield. Three heavy ballista set up on the hill are manned by two men each, piles of massive bolts stacked to the sides. All across the battlefield are the contrast of white flags bearing the image of the White Lotus and the Black flags of the Lotus Alliance. The enemy army numbers over 50,000 strong. Thousands of conscripted militia-men fill the front lines across the valley, reinforced by more elite troops including a substantial amount of archers and firebenders. Ferocious beasts trained for war, terrible engines of siege, and a gathering of men unlike any ever seen before marches onto the field releasing chants of war and battle drums as they go. To the right side of the far field a hill rises up to the right before dropping down in a sheer rock cliff. A grassy path drops down below the side of that far right hill and descends low against the cliff-side, a steep drop to the ocean next to it. The Imperial Order commanders set up on that hill far back and away from danger, hundreds of heavy spear-men surrounding the hill. A massive tree atop that hill, normally home to the hundreds of Flying Lemurs that enjoy the fruit it bears, now sits motionless, devoid of life. Ballista are set up all over their ranks to defend from aerial attackers. The Red flag of the Fellowship of the Imperial Order is easily visible atop the hill. In the middle of their ranks is a solid line of Komodo Rhinoceros cavalry.
Light clouds gather in front of the bright sun, forming massive rays of sun that shine through the cloud layer and illuminate the moist grass across the field. The commanders of the Imperial Order, mounted on their Mongoose Dragons, ride out to the center of the field under a white flag with around 20 other riders.Following Reibesch and Arhat’s lead the group rides out to meet them. As the group rides out to the center of the field, the three Order commanders, Captain Lee, High General Zu Ten, and General Jeong Jeong lead a group that consists of Adar the Bronze Beserker, Bullseye, Cecilia, Leoma, Merissa, and Nicci who is also known as the terrifying Death’s Mistress. High General Zu Ten addresses Reibesch, as they have met on the battlefield in the past and share an amount of respect for one another. ”General Reibesch, the Imperial Army of the Order demands your surrender. Lay down your weapons in the name of the creator and you shall not be harmed.”
To which Reibesch replies “I am afraid general, that if you want our weapons, you’re gonna have to come take them from us”. The two veteran generals share a smile of respect. Jeong Jeong glares at Avatar Jaraiya. “So avatar it seems you have been corrupted by the keeper, you have chosen your fate. And Aumanil…. I never thought you would be one to be taken by the keepers grasp…. Now you will be cleansed with the rest of them. None of you, former FRIENDS or not will be shown even an ounce of leniency for your transgressions”.
Aumanil replies “It is you who will pay for your transgressions Jeong Jeong! Your ignorance has blinded you! See reason!”. Jeong Jeong replies only with a smirk.
Fow Bang Chow notices the huge man wielding a saphire warhammer and they make eye contact. Fow realizes by his stance that the man is in earthbender, and a powerful one at that. Adar seems to know the same about Fow and returns the glare. Adar then notices the sword on Fow Bang Chow’s back and recognizes it. When he demands to know where he got it, and that it is one of four master weapons made by the dead Avatar Zeng Ku, Fow Bang Chow proclaims that he will tell him if he Adar can best him in battle, to which the giant earthbender chuckles with pleasure.
Jaraiya steps forward and addresses Jeon Jeong and Zu Ten. “We fight for the freedom of all peoples to live as they wish free from tyranny and oppression, and we will bow to no enemy. We will show our quality on the battlefield. As the Avatar, it is my duty to stand by those who would fight to ensure that the flame of liberty burns eternally into the future!”.
With nothing else left to say the Lotus commanders turn around and head back to the commanders hill. The Order commanders take their position on the opposite hill, except Captain Lee who positions himself on a smaller hill to the left side of the valley, a couple hundred yards from the forest. The party wishes the general and Arhat good luck and move closer to the front lines. Horns of battle echo from the Order and they begin to chant in a rhythmic war cry, challenging those who would dare stand against them. Men around the party appear grim and serious, sweat beating on their brows as they witness the great horde before them.
An airbender lands next to the group and lets them know that three earthbenders from Asloth who have come to repay them for saving the village from being sacrificed to the dragon, and that Reibesch deployed them to three different strategic locations including the forward wall, the rear fort, and the river barricade. The Imperial Order Archers raise their bows and prepare to fire. Captain Lee on his hill drops his hand and arrows fly towards you. General Reibesch, face firm with the look of a seasoned warrior turns to the left.
SHIELDS!!!! NOMADS!!!!! Arrows fly towards you, Jaraiya shares a look of unease with the group. The phalanx forms and a wall of wood, metal, and muscle, sealing the front line. Arrows rain down and before the touch the bulk of the army Ahrat issues and command and torrents of air meet the arrows in the sky, sending them flying away landing in the grass in front of the army. The shield wall is riddled with arrows but none made it through. Zu Ten waves his hand far off in the distance atop the hill and the front lines begin to march across the field. Swordsman and firebenders begin to increase in pace getting closer and increasing in speed. Soon they start a dead run and let out a fierce war cry as they charge. As the horde approaches Reibesch unsheathes his sword and raises it into the air with a cry “FOR THE AVATAR!!!!”
The Lotus army roars in defiance and the order troops collide with the shield wall. The phalanx struggles to hold from the shear bulk of the army pushing against them, the moist grass surrendering no traction under their heavy boots. Eventually the phalanx is able to stop the advance, and push the enemy line back. As the enemy is pushed back the shield wall opens and airbenders send out a stream of air at the enemy troops, pushing them back even further, then with a battle cry the Lotus troops charge and begin the battle in earnest. The part charges with Jaraiya and the Crimson Dragons. Tsing Tao of the Pink Staff is the first to hit the Order lines and his blows strike swift and true, delivering fatal blows. The rest of the group follows close behind as Fow Bang Chow covers himself in rock armor and wielding his Green Crystalline Great-sword Valorun, begins to wade through the enemy ranks. Aumanil swirls water up from the grass and making giant tentacles he slams them into enemies, using one to completely circle one of the men in a sphere of water and freezing it into a ball of ice.
Fang Po Po blasts the ice ball with air and sends it rolling through the enemy ranks, crushing many. Kio flips over the first troops and sends out a sweep of fire into the ranks, catching many ablaze. Avatar Jaraiya rushes forward, fire blasting from under his feet propelling him forward and sends out streams of flaming air, blasting enemies back in a torrent of elemental power. The group deals serious damage to the enemy troops and pushes the line forward, bolstering the morale of the army and charging through the lines. The Lotus troops while outnumbered show superior skill and training over the conscripted Order soldiers. The grass is stained with the blood of slain warriors as the Lotus troops push forward.
The Imperial Order begins to rapidly pull back, then goes into a full on retreat. The Lotus pursues until Reibesch, realizing it is a trap, commands the army to halt and the shield wall to reform. As the Order infantry retreats they run in-between the lines of the already charging Komodo-Rhinoceros cavalry with hundreds of firebenders reinforcing them. The infantry turns around behind the rhinos and charge back into the battlefield. The Lotus shield wall forms just in time as the Rhinos crash into the lines, blasting through the phalanx in most places letting the Order troops through the line and beginning the battle anew.
One section of the phalanx held their ground and has now become surrounded and the party must decide if they should risk trying to get to them. General Zimmer and his ostrich horse cavalry charge from the forest at Captain Lee on the left hill now that he is left vulnerable with little troops protecting him. Zimmer’s cavalry break through Lee’s lines and charge up the hill killing hundreds. Lee tries to escape but Zimmer makes it to him and jumps of his horse, spear in hand, and impales Lee off of his mongoose-dragon mount. The cavalry deals heavy damage but they are eventually surrounded and killed. Zimmer and a few dozen others are taken hostage but the enemy is seriously disrupted after losing one of the primary officers. Regardless the Rhino charge left the troops vulnerable and the firebender reinforcements are dealing heavy damage, the Lotus lines are being pushed back. In the distance 3 catapults are being pulled up by the Imperial Order and one trebuchet being pulled by two armored sabertoothed moose lions. These giant predators are huge, roughly the size of an elephant.
Even more terrifying than these ferocious beasts, behind the siege weapons nearly 10,000 infantry reinforcements come up from over the hill being led by a Battle-Titan, the ultimate weapon of war. The giant reptile unleashes a heart-stopping roar swinging its massive jaw from side to side addressing all who stand before it. Battle armor covers it’s body with a very prestigiously dressed firebender atop it’s back. Spikes on the beasts tail add another terrifying weapon to the creatures already formidable arsenal. The battle isn’t looking good, for the first time since they could remember real, sincere fear, the kind of fear where you honestly think your young life could end right here and now, ripples through the spines of our young heroes. If only they knew how the infantry men felt…
